Backman is one of the best when it comes to writing about characters and situations that make you consider ethical dilemmas and life challenges。 He so beautifully writes back stories for the people in his novels that will make you smile, cry and laugh。 The narration itself is interesting as well, keeping the mystery and suspense up until the end。 The story spun the different characters together in a way that wasn’t confusing。 However, the book overall was a bit too long and redundant。 It could’v Backman is one of the best when it comes to writing about characters and situations that make you consider ethical dilemmas and life challenges。 He so beautifully writes back stories for the people in his novels that will make you smile, cry and laugh。 The narration itself is interesting as well, keeping the mystery and suspense up until the end。 The story spun the different characters together in a way that wasn’t confusing。 However, the book overall was a bit too long and redundant。 It could’ve been 75-100 pages shorter and been just as good or better。 。。。more

What can I say ?! This book is simply beautiful。 The author's writing is gorgeous。 While reading this you can find tons of quotes and feel like they are written just for you。 Loved the story so much, gave me some of the vibe of "A Little Life" regardless of the hugely different ending。 What can I say ?! Simply loved this book! Checked all the boxes for me, it was just fantastic。 The author is so skilled at crafting an intriguing story and then layering it with humor, heart and unexpected twists。 Highly recommend if you love great stories where you fall in love with the characters and learn things from them along the way。

I've yet to read a book by Backman that I didn't love。 As always his story telling and character development are pure perfection。 I've yet to read a book by Backman that I didn't love。 As always his story telling and character development are pure perfection。 。。。more

Really 4。5 stars for this one。 I had zero idea what the book was about, and the narrator made it just delightful。 The first part was really pretty funny, and the ending was unexpectedly tender。 Such a delight!

This was the first book I read by Frederik Backman。 While Anxious People gave me a taste of why he is so beloved, the style isn’t for me。

I don't know。 I had high hopes。 It started odd and sarcastic and I liked that。 But I struggled to keep reading it。 I don't know if that's a busy few weeks fault or what。 I felt like I had to force myself to finish the book。 The ending was nice。 Meaningful。 I don't know。 It was fine。 That's all。 I don't know。 I had high hopes。 It started odd and sarcastic and I liked that。 But I struggled to keep reading it。 I don't know if that's a busy few weeks fault or what。 I felt like I had to force myself to finish the book。 The ending was nice。 Meaningful。 I don't know。 It was fine。 That's all。 。。。more

Read my full review here: http://mimi-cyberlibrarian。blogspot。c。。。As Fredrik Backman asserts at the beginning of Anxious People, “This story is about a lot of things, but mostly about idiots。 So it needs saying from the outset that it’s always very easy to declare that other people are idiots, but only if you forget how idiotically difficult being human is。”I had just begun reading Anxious People when a book club friend said that she hated the book and couldn’t wait to finish it。 “Too much stupi Read my full review here: http://mimi-cyberlibrarian。blogspot。c。。。As Fredrik Backman asserts at the beginning of Anxious People, “This story is about a lot of things, but mostly about idiots。 So it needs saying from the outset that it’s always very easy to declare that other people are idiots, but only if you forget how idiotically difficult being human is。”I had just begun reading Anxious People when a book club friend said that she hated the book and couldn’t wait to finish it。 “Too much stupid stuff happening in one day。” I, on the other hand, was laughing my head off at the ridiculous stuff that was happening, and the character study that was emerging。An apartment-viewing goes horribly wrong on the day before New Year’s Eve in a small Swedish town。 A bank robber had just tried to rob a cashless bank。 Confused and scared, the robber ran into a neighboring apartment building where a viewing is in progress。 The robber proceeds to hold all the viewers hostage。 Besides the realtor, there is an older couple who buy and sell apartments, a young Lesbian couple looking for a home before their baby is born, a middle-aged well-to-do woman, and an old woman whose husband is parking the car。 A father and son pair of policemen are first on the scene。 What transpires is both hysterically funny and very introspective。 And—oh yes—a bridge across the road from the apartment building plays a crucial role in the plot。Backman is a master of creating interesting characters。 We grow to know all the characters intimately, including their back stories, the reasons why they were viewing this particular apartment, and why they are such idiots。 He has written several best sellers, including A Man Called Ove, My Grandmother Asked Me To Tell You She’s Sorry, Britt-Marie was Here, and Beartown。 Tom Hanks is going to star in the American movie version of A Man Called Ove。 I am not sure that I have read many books where the characters are so well-defined and interesting。 His commentary about human nature in the first chapter of Anxious People is only matched by his closing comments, when he thanks all the people who influenced the creation of the book。Apparently suicide is something Backman has pondered in several of his books, and I was especially taken by this quote: “So we learn to pretend, all the time, about our jobs and our marriages and our children and everything else。 We pretend we’re normal。 。 。 Sometimes it hurts, it really hurts, for no other reason than the fact that our skin doesn’t feel like it’s ours。 Sometimes we panic because the bills need paying and we have to be grown-up and we don’t know how, because it’s so horribly, desperately easy to fail at being grown-up。”My book club had a lively discussion about Anxious People last night。 We talked about characters, motivation, and the idiocy of the entire scenario。 We all felt that Anxious People was a remarkable book。 This morning one club member sent everyone this article, which we all felt, explained Backman’s gifts。 The author says “ All of Backman’s books focus on the amazingly complicated, beautiful, funny, unexpected, and sometimes tragic experience that we call life while featuring quirky characters that try to do their best at living it。 That’s exactly where the magic of these books lies。”I also appreciated the review in USA Today。 Apparently Anxious People has been optioned for a movie。 It should be great! 。。。more

Bachman is a special author。 He always takes me to places I don’t want to go and introduces me to people I don’t want to meet。 And I am always the better for it。 Inventive, heartfelt, and so very insightful。

If I were smarter, and funnier, and more compassionate, and more honest, and more vulnerable, I might come close to Fredrik Backman。 Because when I read his work, I recognize the sentiment, the observations, the heartbreak and I feel seen。 Every character in this convoluted tale of a bank robbery gone wrong resonated with me。 I was charmed。 I was entertained。 I was moved。 Slowly and happily making my way through all of his books, yet to be disappointed。

OK OK, I get the appeal of this author。 He also drives me nuts because it seems like all of his characters are annoying and he seems to believe that eight out of 10 people are caustic and acerbic。 In my opinion, the ratio is flipped and it’s hard to get through so many characters being this way。 I couldn’t get through A Man Called Ove because it irritated me so much but I might try it again after reading this。 I do think it’s worth it but gosh he takes a long time getting to the point where all OK OK, I get the appeal of this author。 He also drives me nuts because it seems like all of his characters are annoying and he seems to believe that eight out of 10 people are caustic and acerbic。 In my opinion, the ratio is flipped and it’s hard to get through so many characters being this way。 I couldn’t get through A Man Called Ove because it irritated me so much but I might try it again after reading this。 I do think it’s worth it but gosh he takes a long time getting to the point where all people aren’t complete a-holes。 。。。more

This was more a 4。5 star read for me。 I love this author’s style of writing…it’s funny I’m noticing people either love it or hate it, I definitely love it。 Such an easy read with a sweet endearing tale and good lesson for us all at the end。 Can’t wait to read another of his books!

Anxious PeopleNot at all like A Man Called Ove, not like anything I’ve ever read, but a sweet story that all makes sense in the end。 Worth the time and laughs to read!!

This was a longer book compared to the other books I have been reading that it took me about a month to read, but I will say that it didn't feel long at all - some books do - and that's because I enjoyed it so much! Going in I had one thought of what it was going to be about and I was wrong。 I laughed a lot, I cried, and I'm excited to have found another good book from Fredrik (Ove is still better! But I also read BearTown Series and this is better than those too)。 The last chapter just had me i This was a longer book compared to the other books I have been reading that it took me about a month to read, but I will say that it didn't feel long at all - some books do - and that's because I enjoyed it so much! I gave this three stars because for me it was slow to start。 While I enjoyed the writing, I found myself losing the storyline。 Backman writes in a conversational tone that I enjoy and does a good job stringing the story together。 I just didn’t find the hype that everyone else did。

Mattie Whaley

Fairly slow moving story until you get close to the end of the book, but still manages to be interesting and intriguing throughout the whole story despite being a little slow in the middle。 Overall, enjoyed the story and writing and liked the conclusion of the story。

LifeUnfortunately, this book was never a page turner for me。 It was hard for me to keep putting this puzzle of a read together。 I persevered。 To me, it said good people can be idiots and do unlawful things。 Life is messy。

💜 "They say that a person’s personality is the sum of their experiences。 But that isn’t true, at least not entirely, because if our past was all that defined us, we’d never be able to put up with ourselves。 We need to be allowed to convince ourselves that we’re more than the mistakes we made yesterday。 That we are all of our next choices, too, all of our tomorrows。" 💜 "They say that a person’s personality is the sum of their experiences。 But that isn’t true, at least not entirely, because if our past was all that defined us, we’d never be able to put up with ourselves。 We need to be allowed to convince ourselves that we’re more than the mistakes we made yesterday。 That we are all of our next choices, too, all of our tomorrows。" 。。。more
